Dr. Sanders

Sanders Web

I was born in Miami and was delighted to return to Florida to start in private practice in 1996. I graduated from the University of Miami and attended Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine. I received recognition as an undergraduate and was selected as a fellow in Osteopathic Principles and Practice. I completed a general internship at a small community hospital in Broward County. I then began my family medicine residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, which has the oldest and most prestigious family medicine residency in the southeastern United States.

My family and I are all survivors of Hurricane Andrew. The neighborhood in which I lived for my first 25 years took a devastating blow. My entire family was homeless and had to rebuild from the ground up. This was during my senior year of medical school. My medical college served in the emergency medical tents throughout the zone of impact for nearly a year.  In search of higher ground away from the shore, my family relocated to Gainesville.

I had my first child at the end of my residency program my second son in the Millennium Year. I am an active member in my parish, Holy Faith Catholic Church.  My children attend St. Patrick Interparish School and I am an active volunteer at their school.

My other interests include cooking, especially for friends. I am usually working on some quilting project, my personal blog or the office website. I like to pick blueberries and make homemade preserves. My mother and grandmother were terrific homemakers and set the example of being efficient and organized. My father is an engineer and was the first member of his family to ever attend college. I feel blessed to have my parents so close to their grandchildren. I have two older sisters and one lives here in Newberry. She is a real estate agent with ReMax.

I have been fortunate to make a home in Gainesville and hope to continue to serve this community.

Dr. Sanders is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians. She recertified in 2005 and 2006.
